Overview

Dzukou Valley (2,452m) sits on the Nagaland-Manipur border, 25km south of Kohima. Two trailheads: Viswema (18km drive + 7km walk, gentler) and Jakhama (15km + 5km, steeper). Most travellers start Viswema, exit Jakhama.

Best time

Flowers mid-June (lilies), snow Dec-Jan, clearest Oct-Dec and Mar-Apr. Avoid July-Aug heavy rain. Month chart.

Routes

• Viswema: forest, bamboo, river crossings, 6-7h to valley camp. Good for first-timers.
• Jakhama: stone steps, 4-5h, steeper, views earlier.

Night at valley camp (dorm) or Jakhama guesthouse. Sunrise to Japfu ridge (3,048m) optional.
